There are restaurants that try to be everything to everyone and end up being nothing to anybody. Mr. B’s is not that restaurant. After 15 years on Scottsville Road in Bowling Green, KY, Mr. B’s has figured out exactly what it is — and families, sports fans, and pizza lovers keep coming back because of it. I sat down with Nick, the general manager, to talk about what makes Mr. B’s such a go-to for families in the community.
There’s a reason pizza is one of the world’s most universal foods: almost everyone likes it, and it travels effortlessly across age groups. At Mr. B’s, the menu is built around that idea. Pizza, wings, breadsticks, boneless chicken tenders — foods that kids reach for eagerly and parents enjoy just as much.
“The nice thing about pizza is that people of all ages like it, especially kids,” Nick told me. “Breadsticks, boneless chicken wings and tenders are all very kid-friendly, and parents can always find something they’ll enjoy as well.”
One of the things that sets Mr. B’s apart for families is the game room — a dedicated space where kids can play arcade games, try the crane machine, and generally keep themselves occupied while the adults wait for their food. It’s the restaurant equivalent of “are we there yet?” answered before anyone has to ask.
Nick told me the game room was part of the original plan for Mr. B’s and has been a fixture since day one. “The kids always come back with little ducks and things,” he said. “It was part of the original plan — and I would say it would probably be included in the other locations if the space allowed it.”
For sports-loving families, Mr. B’s is practically a dream. With nine different channels running simultaneously, there is room for NFL Sunday Ticket, college games, Thursday and Monday night football, and whatever else happens to be on. “College is huge, and we have all of them,” Nick told me.
Wednesday family night is one of the best deals in Bowling Green for families: a family of four eats for under $40, with soft drinks, breadsticks, wings, and pizza included. It’s the kind of value that makes a weekly tradition easy to justify.
Tucked in the back of the Bowling Green location is a private room that can be closed off for parties, end-of-season sports ceremonies, birthday celebrations, and group events. Given that Mr. B’s sponsors local basketball and football camps in the community, it’s a natural fit for the sports families who already call this place home.
“After a baseball tournament, if all the kids and parents want to come enjoy a meal — that’s exactly how we’d use this space,” Nick said.
When I asked Nick what people couldn’t find on the website or social media that would make them choose Mr. B’s, his answer was immediate: the employees.
“The genuine care that goes into each experience — on top of that, all of our food is made fresh. We like to say the only thing that’s frozen is our french fries and ice cream. Everything’s made daily.”
In an era where families are increasingly conscious about what they’re feeding their kids, that commitment to fresh food is meaningful. And the culture Nick described — a team that genuinely enjoys working together and it shows — is exactly the kind of thing you feel from the moment you walk through the door.
